Parking Meter Rentals and Malfunctions
The City of St. John’s will sell space on any of its parking meters to a contractor needing the space to park a vehicle or a dumpster while doing contracting work on a building or property.
The cost of the meter is $15 per day. A sign will be placed on the meter after it is purchased indicating that parking is by permit only and violators will be ticketed. It is the responsibility of the person purchasing the meter to ensure that no other vehicle parks on that meter before they can park their vehicle or place the dumpster there.
The new parking meters being installed by the City in January 2014, are digital and will send a signal back to the City of St. John’s indicating that there has been a malfunction. This will speed up the process of the City getting a technician to the parking meter to correct any issues.
Residents are still encouraged when they come to a malfunctioning parking meter to call Access St. John’s and report it at 311 or (709) 754-CITY (2489). Residents can identify the meter by the number on the meter and the location. The meter maintenance officer will check the meter within 24 hours and if the meter is determined to have malfunctioned the meter will be repaired. If a ticket has been issued parking services will cancel the ticket.
