Snow Clearing

Snow Clearing

Plow Clearing SnowOn average, St. John’s receives 335 cm of snow each year. In the winter of 2000-2001 we measured our greatest total snowfall of 648 cm.

The City of St. John's budgets approximately $15 million each year for snow clearing and ice control operations.

Typically, the City implements the parking ban in early January. The recent heavy snowfall, compounded by more snow in the forecast, requires an early implementation. The on-street parking ban outside the downtown, and the early morning parking ban in the downtown, is in effect as of 12:30 a.m., Thursday, December 13.

Once implemented, the ban is in effect daily from 12:30 to 7:30 a.m. regardless of weather or street conditions. The ban is lifted in the early spring.
