Wally Collins has served as the Councillor for Ward 5 since 2005, having been re-elected most recently in 2013.

Councillor Collins was educated at Bishop’s College in St. John’s before moving into the construction and landscaping industry. His work experience includes positions at the Calgary Zoo and at Green Thumb in St. John’s before starting his own business Collin’s Landscaping.

Known for his tell-it-like-it-is personality, Councillor Collins is very active with City Council as chairperson of the St. John’s Transportation Commission. He also sits on the Eastern Waste Management Board. He is also very involved in his ward as a volunteer sitting on the Gould’s Recreation Association and the Gould’s Arena Association.

His top issues as a member of St. John’s City Council focus on improving infrastructure for Goulds and Kilbride as its ward member, including ensuring paving projects and flood problems are dealt with. One of his top priorities is advocating for a Recreation Centre for Southlands, South Brook and the surrounding areas.

He currently serves as Council respresentative on the Regional Fire Services Commitee; Regional Water Commitee; Regional Wastewater Committee; Shea Heights Board; and Goulds Recreation Association.

In his spare time, Councillor Collins enjoys hunting and fishing. He has also become an avid runner having participated in the Tely 10 three times. He also enjoys soccer, hockey and softball. Councillor Collins and his wife Laura have three children and two grandchildren.
