The 2025 General Election is your opportunity to help shape the future of St. John’s. Your municipal leaders play a critical role in delivering services, developing policies, and making decisions that directly impact your daily life — from snow clearing and road maintenance to recreation and development.

Key Election Dates

• Vote by Mail Kits Distributed: Week of September 15
• Last day to return vote by mail via Canada Post: Wednesday, September 24
• Election Day: Thursday, October 2

Candidates 

The nomination period for candidates has now closed and the deadline to withdraw has passed. Ward 1 Councillor Jill Bruce and Ward 3 Councillor Greg Noseworthy have won their respective seats by acclamation.

The official candidates for the remaining council seats are listed below, by position and alphabetically by surname. Contact information submitted by each candidate is also included. 

How to Vote

The City of St. John's will once again use a vote-by-mail system for the 2025 municipal election. If you are a resident of St. John’s, it’s important to check the voters list to ensure your vote-by-mail kit is sent to the correct address. You can confirm your information or register through our Voter Registration Portal. To register, identification will be required.

Vote-by-Mail Kits

Voting kits will be mailed out the week of September 15 via Canada Post. If you plan to return your kit by mail, it must be postmarked no later than Wednesday, September 24.

Voters can also return their completed kits to drop-box locations throughout the city:

• Ward 1 – Paul Reynolds Community Centre – 35 Carrick Drive
• Ward 2 – City Hall
• Ward 3 – Mews Community Centre – 60 Blackler Avenue
• Ward 4 – Kenmount Terrace Community Centre – 85 Messenger Drive
• Ward 5 – Shea Heights Community Centre – 130 Linegar Avenue
• Ward 5 – Goulds Recreation Centre – 509 Main Road – Goulds
• Ward 5 – Southlands Community Centre – 40 Teakwood Drive (drop off available until October 1 at this location only)

Vote on Election Day 

Eligible voters can drop-off or cast their ballots at a voting centre on election day (October 2) from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters planning to register at the election centre must go to the centre in their own ward and acceptable identification available.

Voting Centre locations will be as follows:

• Ward 2 – Knights of Columbus – 49 St. Clare Avenue
• Ward 3 – H.G.R. Mews Community Centre – 60 Blackler Avenue
• Ward 4 – Kenmount Terrace Community Centre – 85 Messenger Drive
• Ward 5 – Shea Heights Community Centre – 130 Linegar Avenue
• Ward 5 – Goulds Recreation Centre – 509 Main Road - Goulds

Accessibility

The City is committed to making elections accessible and seeks advice from the City’s Inclusion Advisory Committee to improve accessibility. The following is a list of actions and initiatives taken by the City to support accessibility for the 2025 Municipal Election: 

• A vote-by-mail format allows voters to cast their vote from home.
• Election information can be found on the City’s website, social media, and through postal mail.
• Election information may be available in alternate format. Please contact the Election Coordinator for more information.
• Accommodations may be available upon request. Please contact the Election Coordinator for more information. If American Sign Language interpretation is required, a minimum of 2 weeks’ notice is required.
• Election materials meet Clear Print Guidelines, where possible.

Voting Centre Accessibility Features

• Accessible parking and drop off
• Wheelchair accessible
• Service animals welcome
• Wayfinding signage
• Voters may drop off completed voting kits or vote on site
• Privacy voting booths include: pens, large print voting instructions and list of candidates, magnifier and additional lighting
• Use of personal assistive devices to mark ballot (own pen, mobile device, smart phone, reader apps, etc.)
• Election staff assistance available on request
