Due to an ongoing postal strike, some vote-by-mail kits may not reach residents in time for the municipal election. To provide an opportunity to all residents to cast their ballot, the City of St. John’s has implemented the following changes.
New Election Date: Wednesday, October 8, 2025 (originally October 2).
Voting Options: In-person voting and replacement kits are available for residents affected by the postal disruption.
Ballot Tracking: Check our online ballot status look-up to confirm if your ballot was received.

For more information, contact the City of St. John’s Elections Office at election@stjohns.ca or by calling 311 or 709-576-3158.
The City uses a vote-by-mail system, which means that vote-by-mail kits are sent to registered users mailing addresses.
Voting kits were distributed to residents the week of September 15 via Canada Post. The deadline to return kits by mail was Wednesday, September 24, however you can still cast your vote. Learn more about how you can have your say below.
Eligible voters can cast or drop off their ballots at a voting centre on election day (October 8) from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you plan to register and/or vote in-person on Election Day, you must go to the centre in your own ward and bring acceptable identification.
Voting Centre locations are as follows:
Note regarding Ward 2 election centres: The Knights of Columbus was not available as a Voting Centre on October 8, and while the Centre for Performance and Creativity has accessibility features such as an accessible entrance, washroom, and elevator, construction nearby has created challenges for accessible drop-off. To increase accessibility for all voters, the City added the Bannerman Park Pool House as an additional Voting Centre, which includes accessible parking and drop-off.
To support access at both sites, the City will implement temporary parking limits on Bannerman Road to increase availability. On-site parking is also available at both centres, though spaces are limited. An advisory with parking details will be issued prior to Election Day.
If you checked the online Ballot Status Look-Up and found the City did not receive you ballot, you can request a new one in advance of election day.
If you did not receive a vote-by-mail kit, you may not be registered to vote. Please note that online voter registration is still closed, however you can register in-person and vote on election day or follow the directions below.
Residents who need to register or request a replacement ballot can:
Visit the Access Centre at City Hall, 10 New Gower Street (Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
Call 311 or 709-754-CITY (2489)
Please note that registration/replacement requests will be accepted up to and including October 7. Acceptable identification will be required.
You will need to pick up your kit once its ready at City Hall.
You can return your completed vote-by-mail kit to a secure drop box up to and including Election Day, October 8.
The secure drop box outside City Hall (10 New Gower Street) is available 24/7 until 8 p.m. on October 8.
You can also bring your kit to drop boxes inside the following recreation facilities during regular operating hours or until 8 p.m. on Election Day (October 8):
Please note that Southlands Community Centre was previously unavailable for drop-off on election day, however the City is pleased to now offer that as an additional option to residents on October 8.
The nomination period for candidates has now closed and the deadline to withdraw has passed. Ward 1 Councillor Jill Bruce and Ward 3 Councillor Greg Noseworthy have won their respective seats by acclamation.
