Newfoundland Power owns and maintains most of the street lighting in the City of St. John's We are their customer, and we are charged a monthly fee for this service.

Did you know… When the City of St. John's approves a new subdivision there is always a lighting plan that goes with it? As the subdivision develops, Newfoundland Power installs the lighting as soon as it is possible to do so.
Most streetlights get electricity from the distribution lines at the rear of building lots in the subdivision. The electrical feed is normally buried underground on an easement between two building lots. This is not installed until construction is underway on both adjacent lots. This is why there can sometimes be a delay in getting all the street lighting installed.
We want to make sure that there is an acceptable standard of street lighting in all its urban areas. If you have concerns about street lighting, let us know by contacting Access St. John's. We evaluate concerns on an individual basis, in consultation with Newfoundland Power.
