Newfoundland Power owns and maintains most of the street lighting in the City of St. John's We are their customer, and we are charged a monthly fee for this service.

Report a light

When a streetlight is not working properly, report the problem to Newfoundland Power directly through their web page. You can also contact a Newfoundland Power customer service representative at 709-737-2802.

Did you know… When the City of St. John's approves a new subdivision there is always a lighting plan that goes with it? As the subdivision develops, Newfoundland Power installs the lighting as soon as it is possible to do so.

Most streetlights get electricity from the distribution lines at the rear of building lots in the subdivision. The electrical feed is normally buried underground on an easement between two building lots. This is not installed until construction is underway on both adjacent lots. This is why there can sometimes be a delay in getting all the street lighting installed.
