Speed humps are appropriate for all local streets and low-volume collector roads that do not
serve as transit or emergency response routes.
Speed tables, which have a longer profile, may be considered with caution on higher-volume collectors.
Speed cushions have channels cut into them, approximately the width of a large vehicle, to allow vehicles to pass over them without slowing down considerably. The use of speed cushions is common for transit or emergency routes as it allows larger bus and emergency vehicles to pass through relatively uncambered.
