Raised Crosswalks

Raised crosswalks are essentially a ramped speed bump with a flattened surface placed at a location with a marked crosswalk. They:

• reduce vehicle speeds
• improve pedestrian visibility
• highlight the priority of crossing pedestrians, and
• may be constructed with asphalt or concrete and can be combined with curb extensions

Raised crosswalks are installed consistent with the City's traffic calming policy and crosswalk practice, typically on local roads and lower-volume collectors.
