The City of St. John's celebrates National Youth Week from May 1 to 7 annually. Youth Week recognizes and applauds the talents, passion and achievements of our local young people. In celebration, the City of St. John’s provides several free events and activities open to youth in junior high and high school.
Annually, the City recognizes a junior and senior Youth of the Year as part of the Applause Awards. Through their volunteering, extracurricular activities and community involvement they have helped make St. John’s a better place to live. The 2024 Applause Awards were presented on April 18, 2024, view the nominees and recipients.
The junior and senior recipients of this year's Youth of the Year will attend the City Council meeting on Tuesday, April 30 at 3 p.m. as the Mayor officially proclaims National Youth Week in the City of St. John’s.
Wednesday May 1 to Tuesday, May 7.
Original artwork from the City's youth will be on display at the Wyatt (Great) Hall, City Hall. Public viewing is available May 1 to 7 during regular business hours (weekdays only).
Everyone is invited to the opening reception of more than 100 pieces of art produced by St. John’s youth on Thursday, May 2, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Wyatt (Great) Hall, City Hall. The reception is free to attend. Light snacks and refreshments will be served and there will be live youth entertainment to enjoy.
Submissions for the 2024 Art Exhibit are now being accepted. All submissions are to be dropped off at the Paul Reynolds Community Centre, 35 Carrick Drive. The deadline for art submissions is Friday, April 26.
Junior and senior high-aged youth are invited to the Paul Reynolds Community Centre, 35 Carrick Drive, for a free carnival: Tuesday, May 7 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. There will be giant-sized games, prizes and much more!
