Learn, participate and shape

The community's role in the energy transition is to become informed about, participate in, and shape programs.

• review the options and prepare to take advantage of energy transition programs as they become available
• participate on energy transition committees or working groups
• attend public information meetings
• ask questions or make suggestions
• reach out to your Councillor and other community leaders
• Follow us on engage@stjohns.ca

The Environment and Sustainability Experts Panel is formed by subject matter experts from our community. They offer their expertise, opinions and perspectives on environmental and sustainability matters. Topics include energy intensity, greenhouse gas emissions, adaptation resilience and environment.

Organizations as partners and leaders

The energy transition is too large an undertaking for any one organization. There are opportunities for businesses, institutions, associations and community groups to step up.

• Consider the transition when you bid on public projects
• accessing public funding for emission reduction
• learn about your own emissions and set organizational net-zero targets
• lobby higher levels of government for support in emissions reduction efforts

We may be able to help you by:

• providing letters of support (sometimes required to access funding)
• sharing know-how to build capacity
• convening working groups
• keeping communication channels open and transparent

• The Housing Home Energy Savings Program (HESP) assists low income households in making energy efficient retrofits to their homes.

• Read about the CMHC energy-efficient housing premium refund.
• Apply for a Green Municipal Fund for projects completed in partnership with the City.
